Answer
Baby fish do sleep just like any other fish. It is more of a floating rest that they will do. Some fish are nocturnal so sleep during the day, but most will sleep at night. If it is a type of cichlid, then yes it will care for it's young, if not then probably no. Removing the babies was a good thing. Provide them with the same things as your adults, a sponge filter, and a heater. Change 25% of their water every other day. And feed them foods like liquid fry food, finely crushed flakes (good for slightly larger babies), baby brine shrimp, daphina. Feed them 3-4 times a day. Doing all of this will help them grow big and strong. Get your fish a hiding place as well, so they aren't as scared.
